Megan + Alex | Boatwerks, Holland Michigan Fine Art Wedding Photographer
I knew right away that I was going to get along with Alex and Megan when they expressed their desire to make their marriage the most important component of planning their wedding. I loved that this couple had their priorities exactly where they should be--on each other and on their future. And just like it always does, when a bride and groom have their focus where it should be, the other details seem to fall right into place. This wedding, on one of the first hot days of the Michigan summer, was everything we live for here in the midwest. A stiff breeze off Lake Macatawa greeted boaters and reception guests who sipped signature cocktails and celebrated the happy day together. Sweet touches of pink, beautiful rings and the most gorgeous wedding dress were perfectly accented by a rich, vibrant sunset. I have no doubt the new Mr. & Mrs. Hemmila are going to have years and years of happiness ahead and I am honored I was a part of their day! Read how Megan and Alex met below and enjoy some of my favorites from their day!
In Megan's words: Alex and I knew each other from living on the same floor at Western Michigan University. However, it was not until I was in Spain, the following summer, that we started talking. For about the last month of my stay in Spain we talked every day and as I learned more about Alex, I quickly saw that he was someone I could see myself dating. When I returned home to WMU, Alex was there to help me move into my apartment and meet my parents for the first time. Poor guy was thrown right into the fire. However, after our first date, at Cedar Point, I began to see the possibility that this amazing man could possibly be the one that would walk through life with me. He was a generous man that had old style traditions and knew how to treat a lady. Over our two years of dating, I fell more and more in love with Alex. This past September, he completely surprised me with his proposal. It was like a fairy tale. I couldn't have imagined anything more amazing. Each and every day I fall more and more in love with Alex, my incredible husband. I'm so glad that God choose such a wonderful man to walk with me through life.
In Alex's words: Megan and I first met when we lived in French Hall at Western Michigan University. We lived in that dorm for two semesters, but did not talk to each other as our school and work schedules did not work out. We began talking that summer, as Megan sent me a message while I was in the hospital with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. At this time Megan was in Spain studying abroad, so I spent many nights waking up to talk to her before she would go to school in the morning. As the summer ended and it was time to go back to school Megan and I finally got the chance to see each other after two months of just talking. Megan is the most compassionate person that I know and she is always there when my blood pressure rises in situations. She is my biggest supporter no matter if its ideas for work or out on the golf course. Without Megan in my life there would be a void that would never be able to be filled, and I am so luck to be able to call her my wife for the rest of my life. On the Hemmila side of the family the men tend to marry up, and I have married way up with Megan.
