Wild & Romantic Sea Inspired Wedding | South Haven

Collaborating with other creatives makes my heart sing. Cheesy? Yes. But true? Absolutely. This sea inspired shoot on the lakeshore of South Haven took place on a randomly cold (we are talking 39 degrees!) and foggy day in May. From the moment I arrived, I knew magic was going to happen as our set-up literally looked like the seas had receded and left this tablescape behind.

I was so thrilled when Magnolia Rouge featured this shoot several weeks ago, and can't wait to share more with you today! Shelby of The Day's Design deserves all the credit on the art direction, styling and florals and really brought this creative vision to life! Full list of vendors at the bottom along with my settings and notes on how I photographed this for those of you are photographers!

Art Direction, Styling & Florals: The Days Design/Wedding Dress: Spring Sweet/ Rentals: Events by ICandy/Calligraphy & Invitation Suite: Wildfield Paper Co./ Cake: Josh Ferguson/Processed & Scanned: Indie Film Lab

Some behind the scenes notes: I shot this largely with my Contax 645, 80mm 2.0 aperture, Fuji400h/Portra400.  I metered at 320 and even overexposed a it more since it was such an overcast, foggy day.  Digitals were photographed with a 5D Mark III and were mostly shot wide open with the 50mmf/1.2L to match he films depth of field the closest. The only exception to shooting wide open was the invitation suite and ring photos, where I bumped my aperture to 5.0 (and subsequently shot a 1/25th and held my breath so as not  to shake the camera). My camera fogged up quite a few times, as is apparent in some of the shots but I really ended up loving them because I feel like it played to the overall mood of the shoot. Apple Orchard Wedding | The Bloom Workshop

Planning the styled shoot portions for our workshops (The Bloom Workshop) is one of my favorite aspects of running this event.  My business partner, Michaela envisions the prettiest details and when it all comes together it takes my breath away. This past May, we hosted our workshop at the gorgeous Bieker Farms in Ada, Michigan.  Shelby of the Day's Design was on site and made us beautiful bouquets, a floral arch and a dreamy garland that ran the length of our table.  Rentals by Events by ICandy provided the perfect location to house the gorgeous cakes by Sweet Heather Anne.  The two piece gown, worn by Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events was borrowed from Spring Sweet's in Holland.  Sweet touches like the bride and groom signs by Lumber Tacks, invitation suite by Estudio Rojo and ribbon and runners by Adorn Company tied the day together.

This pretty shoot was featured over on Inspired By This a few months ago, and you can check out the full post HERE.  In the meantime, here are a few of my favorites! Thanks to Indie Film Lab for the film scans!

Katelyn + Jordan | Cheney Place Wedding

It's no secret that there aren't many things I love more than a wedding day. The details coming together, the excitement and the beauty... so many reasons that documenting loves stories is a passion of mine. When I get to spend the day with couples who are kind, generous and perfect for each other its like Christmas morning for me. Katelyn and Jordan's wedding was just that, and more. Two kinder souls you won't find; Katelyn teaches special education and Jordan is a social worker; two people who daily live selflessly for others.  Both Jordan and Katelyn's family and friends were incredibly kind and made the day a joy.

I always love a groom who is beyond excited to marry his bride-- let's just say Jordan broke into a dance whenever he saw Katelyn for the first time. You just have to smile when that happens! These two were more focused on their marriage than the wedding day, but their details weren't lacking my any means. From popcorn favors, to vintage furniture the reception was impeccably chic and beyond perfect! So much so, that the Knot even featured them on their website! You can check that out HERE if you would like to!

Congratulations Katelyn & Jordan!  Here are some of my favorites from their day...
